The Artist’s Magazine Feature article!

The latest June issue of the Artist’s Magazine is already out and in stores now! As one of their 4 featured artists this month, I share my painting technique of Plums in a step by step demo. The 8 page article was written by Judith Fairly, an artist and guest writer to the magazine, who explores my technique in depth and offers a clear perspective. You can also read about me at the Artist’s Network, the Artist’s Magazine’s online edition. Get a copy of the magazine and let me hear your questions and comments!

The 1st  Scottsdale Salon of Fine Art at the Legacy Gallery,  April 21 – May 19th.

The event opened on April 21st with a spectacular celebration. There were over 200 artists chosen to exhibit in the 10,000 sq foot space of the premier fine art gallery in Scottsdale.  The nights events culminated with the announcement of 7 award winners who received cash prizes worth a combined total of $25,000.  John Geraghty, an artist and the Trustee and Special Advisor to the Autry National Center‘s Masters of the American West Fine Art Exhibition was selected to judge for the $10,000 and $5,000 prize, and representatives from premier fine art magazines chose the $2000 merit awards in the categories of Figure, Landscape, Still Life, Wildlife and Western. The Blue Hour was selected for the Merit Prize for Still Life from Fine Art Connoisseur. Fine Art Connoisseur is one of the leading magazines of traditional fine art engaging enthusiasts and fine-art collectors with in-depth editorial that builds upon the breadth of information offered by the world’s most important art authorities, edited by Peter Trippi, former director of the Dahesh Museum of Art in New York and published by Eric Rhoads, CEO of Streamline Publishing.   I invite you to visit the Legacy Gallery and their special exhibition website where you can view the prize winners of the Salon and all the works in the exhibition.  Of course, seeing the works in person is always so much better!

California Art Club Centennial Gold Medal Exhibition at the Pasadena Museum of California Art, April 3-24

The California Art Club was established in 1909, one of the oldest, largest and most active art organizations in the country built on the foundation of promoting and supporting contemporary-traditional fine art.  Their annual Gold Medal Exhibition marks one of the most honored events of the year for this prestigious club. This year’s 100th Gold Medal Exhibition included 154 artists in the premier juried exhibition. The judges were selected from 5 museums; Catherine Hess, Peter Keller, Jenkins Shannon, Scott Shields, and Jean Stern from the Huntington Art Collection, Bowers Museum of Cultural Art, Pasadena Museum of California Art, Crocker Museum, Irvine Museum, respectively. 13 artists received awards on the opening night with the highest honor, the Centennial Gold Medal Award, given to the great artist, Richard Schmid. For more information and to view the celebrated Gold Medal Exhibition and the award winners at the CAC’s website you can go to their website. Also I recommend reading about the fascinating history of the club during the growth of Los Angeles during the past century.
